"Eartha Kitt! She appeared to flash out of nowhere in 1952 as the most exotic performer since Josephine Baker (and I add Yma Sumac, peruvian singer of 50's) and within about three minutes - the time it took to absorb C'est si bon - she was the most famous new face of the day. The microphone adored her hot brown voice with the purring vibrate like an itch at the centre. Her songs (sex, love and money in varying proportions) threw a dash of French mustard over a contemporary hit-parade littered with cold cuts. In a word she had style. But it had taken a long time to acquire".
