"Fifty years after she came to RCA, Kitt is still basically a cafe artist, not an arena superstar like Madonna. (In 1987, Madonna raided the turf of a senior Material Girl by recording Santa baby. Kitt was not impressed. Asked to comment, that prowling, hissing force of nature just snickered. 'Now, really, Madonna', she said. 'Keep trying. She's another one of those Barbie dolls'). But she brushes off fate with that cackling laugh. 'I always say, they didn't pay Michelangelo for the Sistine Chapel. What do you want, Eartha?' ".
